MOULD TREATMENT

Mould treatment starts with understanding the wall condition.

Visible mould, recurring stains or peeling paint can be frustrating. A fresh coat alone may not be the answer: surface condition, moisture, ventilation and any underlying leak or seepage need to be considered before repainting is recommended.

Mould growth on a wall that needs assessment before repainting

When painting alone may not be enough

Mould can return when the underlying source of moisture remains. If there is an active leak, condensation issue, water ingress or building defect, that cause may need to be resolved by the appropriate party before paintwork can provide a lasting cosmetic finish.

Bathroom and toilet humidity

Ventilation, drying habits and constant moisture can affect painted surfaces and encourage mould growth.

Condensation or seepage

Air-conditioning condensation, pipe leaks, external water ingress or inter-floor seepage need separate attention before repainting.

Existing paint failure

Peeling, chalking or stained paint may require removal, treatment, repair, primer or sealer within the agreed scope.

How A&J approaches a mould-affected wall

1

Review the visible condition

Photos and, where needed, a site visit help determine the affected area, paint condition and whether there are signs that need investigation before painting.

2

Clarify the limits of the paint scope

If an active water source or building issue is suspected, it should be addressed first. Painting does not repair leaks or eliminate the cause of continued dampness.

3

Agree suitable surface preparation

The agreed work may include removing loose material, cleaning/treating affected surfaces, repairs, primer or sealer, depending on the condition and scope.

4

Apply the agreed finish

Once the surface is ready, the selected paint system is applied as agreed. Ongoing moisture control and ventilation still matter after handover.
