Before starting A&J, Alvin worked in facility maintenance across three companies. The work included plumbing repairs, electrical wiring, air-conditioning servicing, drilling, picture hanging and office painting—often handled alone on site.

In 2007, wanting more flexibility and time with family, he registered A&J Aircon and Handyman Services. Painting was one of several services, but clients’ reactions to a renewed home revealed a different kind of satisfaction. The business evolved into A&J Painting & Handyman Services.

Learning the right foundations

In the early years, Alvin worked alongside a senior painter with more than 30 years of experience. The lessons were practical: masking skirting and power points, protecting furniture, moving it with care, preparing crack lines and screw holes, and achieving a smooth finish.

As the business grew, A&J built and trained local-painter teams to maintain consistent workmanship. The focus remains the same today: a clear scope, proper preparation, protection and a finish that respects the space entrusted to us.
