PREPARATION GUIDE

How to prepare your home before painting

Good preparation is a shared conversation: the contractor needs to understand the space, and the homeowner needs clarity about access, belongings, and the planned work sequence. Following a straightforward checklist before and during the project ensures a smooth, worry-free repaint.

Before the Quotation

Providing clear context early helps avoid scope misunderstandings and ensures an accurate assessment from the start:

Define the Scope

Share which specific rooms, walls, ceilings, doors, or pipes you want painted so the contractor can plan material quantities and manpower accurately.

Highlight Existing Defects

Point out water marks, peeling paint, mould, hairline cracks, or previous repairs so surface treatment, sealers, or patch works are included in the quote.

Share Photos & Layout Context

Send clear photos or a brief video of your space. This gives contractors immediate insight into room sizes, furniture density, and wall conditions.

Before Work Begins

Taking a few structured steps prior to day one ensures your daily routine is respected and your belongings stay fully protected:

1

Confirm Scope & Paint Details

Double-check the agreed surfaces, paint systems, and colour codes with your contractor before tins are opened to ensure everything matches your vision.

2

Coordinate Access & Estate Rules

Discuss parking, lift access, working hours, and any condo management (MCST) or HDB requirements to prevent arrival delays on site.

3

Arrange Furniture & Protection Plans

Clarify which heavy furniture items will be shifted to room centres or covered, and clear small tabletop decor to give workers room to manoeuvre.

4

Secure Valuables & Personal Belongings

Store cash, jewelry, laptops, important documents, and fragile decor securely inside locked drawers or cabinets before workers arrive.

5

Plan for Household Safety & Air Flow

Arrange safe areas or off-site options for pets and young children. Keep windows accessible to maintain natural cross-ventilation during application.

At Handover

Walk through the completed space with your contractor to inspect the finished surfaces together. Note any minor concerns or touch-ups promptly while the team is on site, and retain your quotation and invoice for future maintenance records.
